Emma McGregor:
Title: Punch buggy, no punch backs!
Where: This is a picture of my daughter Emma Mc Gregor, Emma is 18 and has Metachromatic Leukodystrophy, a rare degenerative disease with no known cure. Emma loves punch buggies and everyday I feel the soft punch of her hand on my arm while driving and hear the familiar "punch buggy, no punch backs" phrase. Emma is wheelchair bound and always asks if one day she can have a bug of her own to drive, last Halloween I turned her wheelchair into the only punch buggy she will ever be able to drive!
Story: Emma is an 18 year old senior at Northgate high school in Walnut Creek Ca. Emma spent the first 8 years of her life normal, healthy and learning, she skied, swam and was popular with her friends. Then the unbelievable happened and she diagnosed with MLD(Metachromatic Leukodystrophy. We were told to enjoy her and the doctors gave her 4-6 years to live. Rolling the dice we gambled on an experimental stem transplant at Duke University that hopefully slows the progression of her disease down. Emma is now 9 years post transplant. Emma loves her friends, her pets and her obsession for the bug and punch buggy game has never left!
